Villagers in Llanasa, Flintshire are celebrating after winning £135,000 in funding from the Welsh Government to refurbish their Village Hall.
Local Government and Communities Minister Carl Sargeant AM visited Llanasa today (Friday 23 March) to announce the news to the Village Hall Management Committee and other friends and supporters.
The grant has come from the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP) and means improvement work to add a bigger kitchen, better toilet facilities and more space can now go ahead.
The Hall is currently used by numerous groups in the village who will benefit from the changes including the Parish Church, Ss Asaph and Cyndeyrn who use it for Sunday School.
Their Vicar, the Reverend Stuart Elliott wrote the bid for CFAP funding and said:
“One of the problems we’ve always had here is capacity so these improvements will give us much more flexibility.
“So many local groups meet here from Girl Guides and the Women’s Institute to our weekly Farmer’s Market so improvements to the hall will benefit everyone.”
This will be the third phase of refurbishing work as underfloor heating, disabled toilets and insulation has already been added to the building.
Mrs Joan Cashen who sadly passed away earlier this year was instrumental in ensuring refurbishment work was done to the Village Hall. Her husband Derek is the Hall’s Treasurer and added:
“She started the ball rolling and would be delighted to know that we’ve got the money – she would be chuffed to bits, especially as it comes after a few let-downs along the way.”
